The aim of this module is to show future international Food & Agri business leaders how they can take advantage of opportunities and tackle challenges in global economy. In doing so the module has been designed to develop strong foundations in a vast interdisciplinary field of international business, covering conceptually important topics and furthering analytical skills to analyse and understand complex nature of Food & Agri businesses operating internationally.
It will develop the cultural knowledge and global vision needed to operate in an international context, teaching students about the international flow of goods and services, the rise of multinational corporations, opportunities for international entrepreneurs, and the implications and lessons for business success in the rapidly changing and exciting world of international business.
The module will introduce students to:
• Globalisation and internationalism (themes, challenges and critical perspectives);
• The ‘new global players’ and rethinking C21 global business strategy;
• The economic theories of trade, free trade and protectionism and the analysis of quotas, tariffs, non-tariff barriers and exchange rates;
• The economics of trade blocks and the regulation of international trade;
• strategic choices available to companies wishing to expand their international markets;
• Internationalisation, market access (alternative approaches to 'going global'), the mitigation of risks and the roles of both UK Trade and Investment and UK Export Finance in helping businesses access new markets overseas; and
• The challenges of doing business in countries with different cultures, especially within the context of UN initiatives such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
